EPISODE 8.5 - WAYNE COYNE LIVE AT THE SPEAKEASY
This is *the* episode.
We explain everything in the (five minute) opening, so not a lot to say here.
Sorry we ran out of time and didn’t have time to get to Twitter questions! Spent too much time talking about Britney Spears…
Also: for the audio.
LOVE YOU ALL! THANKS TO ANYONE WHO CAME OUT! THANKS (times a million) TO FOWLER VOLKSWAGEN AND SAMUEL GORDON JEWELERS!
I hope you guys don’t think this is douchey. I’m just REALLYREALLYREALLY excited about everything I have been given the chance to do this summer and want to make it as awesome as possible. Which means, I want to see all your smiling/drunk faces as much as I can.
I couldn’t have done *any* of these things without my Twitter followers and podcast fans. Thank you all SO much. These last six months have already been pretty incredible and I think the next two will be even better. Hopefully we can hang out and make (babies) magic happen this summer.
6/2: I’ll be live on OklaVision with Spencer Hicks hyping the Rob Delaney comedy show. OklaVision.tv or COX Ch. 3 at noon!
6/3 - 6/5: SOONERCON! We’ll be popping in and out all weekend and recording a podcast live on site at some point! Come geek out with us! We will *definitely* be at the Zombie Prom (after the Delaney show) and I will be hitting on anything that is dressed as Wonder Woman.
6/4: ROB DELANEY live at The Greens. I’m performing along with Spencer Hicks before Rob comes out and does his comedic genius thing. This is one of the biggest comedy shows I have ever performed at, and I hope you ALL come out and let us talk at you for a few hours. Also, on a personal note, Rob will be recording the podcast with me at some point during the day and OMG I’M FREAKING OUT LIKE A LITTLE GIRL. He’s only the most important person on Twitter. No big. TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE HERE.
6/9 - 6/12: Bonnaroo! So stoked to head back to the farm in Tennessee to see Explosions In The Sky, Childish Gambino, Matt & Kim, Arcade Fire, Mavis Staples, and Lil Wayne! We’ll be playing beer-pong and recording a podcast from our campsite at some point during the weekend. If you are planning on being there, find us and we’ll totally talk with you on the show.
7/2: Two shows this night, both at the Ghostlight Theater Club! At 8pm I’ll be performing with my improv group, and at 10pm I’ll be doing stand-up along with local comedy darlings James Curtis, Dan Skaggs, BradChad Porter, and Leah Kayajanian. It’s one of Leah’s last shows before she leaves Oklahoma and you owe it to yourself to see her if you haven’t done so yet. She’ll be huge in like three years.
7/9: Yacht Rock Benefit Party at The Prohibition Room. I’ll be MCing the evening and probably getting drunk. It’s benefitting a domestic abuse victim, and if you show up dressed as a boat captain you double your odds of me making out with you.
7/14: LIVE PODCAST WITH WAYNE COYNE AT THE SPEAKEASY. Featuring music by DEERPEOPLE and comedy by BradChad Porter. This is, for obvious reasons, the thing I am most excited about this summer. I started planning this way back in January, so to finally see it come to fruition is pretty incredible. I’m sure you’ve seen all the details on Facebook by now, but just in case you haven’t, here you go. And yes, it’s free. Huge props to Dan Gordon and Jonathan Fowler for sponsoring this. Starts around 8:30. Get there early.
7/16: Sketchers In The Wry returns! My sketch comedy group killed it in our first show last April, and we’re gonna kill it again on the 16th. 10pm, Ghostlight Theater Club.
7/29 - 7/30: FreeTulsa Music Festival! These guys did a great job putting together an all-local two day festival in just two months last year, in the wake of DFest’s cancelation. Stoked to see what kind of magic they can make happen with an entire year’s worth of planning. Oklahoma has a lot of *really* good local bands and I’m pretty sure they will ALL be here. We’ll be doing the podcast live from Tulsa for the second year in a row!
I’ll hopefully see you guys around this summer! It’s gonna be fun(ny)! Promise.
(And, as always, please subscribe to the podcast!)
<3rayke.
I know I failed miserably at my resolution to “keep a blog” maintained. But, fuck you.
I wanted to write about my upcoming comedy shows, improv shows, the sketch show I have been co-writing, the future podcast I am working on, or how great the new Childish Gambino album is.
But none of that excites me as much as this:
One resolution that I *have* been able to keep is the one where I vowed to get in shape again.
One of the last things I posted on here was how I was going to try the whole C25K phenomenon. And I did. And I *killed* it.
I remember back in January, the very first day, on the treadmill at the gym. I thought it was the dumbest thing ever and I gave it two weeks to prove me wrong. I mean, why would I want to run for a minute and walk for three when I could just run for four minutes?
Then week two happened. It became more of a hassle than something I actually wanted to be doing.
Then week four I almost quit because it started actually getting difficult.
Then week five the weather got nice enough for me to start running outside.
Then week five, day three, I did my first twenty-minute run and felt amazing.
Then I was super addicted.
Then before I knew it, I finished the program. Ten weeks *flew* by.
Then last weekend I ran my first 5K.
Then yesterday I ran for an hour straight. Which is a crazy considering I was equally blown away when I ran for merely twenty minutes just a month and a half ago.
And now, I am running the Redbud 10K next weekend.
I’m finding out that I can do pretty much anything as long as I have girls and music to keep me inspired.
